Death by Chocolate-A Musical Presented by Booker HS VPA Dept.
Sat, February 24, 2024 – Sat, February 24, 2024
Booker High School’s Visual and Performing Arts department is proud to announce the decadent event Death by Chocolate: The Lullaby of Broadway which pairs delicious desserts with delightful music for an evening of indulgence.
The three-show run will be Friday, February 23rd, and will have a show at 7 pm, while Saturday, February 24th, will have show times of 2 pm and 7 pm. Tickets are $15. Tickets can be pre-purchased at www.BookerVPA.com/events and will be available for purchase at the door.
An amalgamation of the vast musical talent here at Booker High School, audiences will be transported to the Broadway stage through the music of George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein with many notable musical favorites. Chocolates and sweet treats will enhance the enjoyment of this formal event. When asked what an audience member should expect, the modern band and choir director Alexander Zickafoose replied, “it will be an experience that leaves them singing, dancing, and savoring every moment.”
The Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) program at Booker High School has established a legacy as an award-winning, robust, and enriching magnet arts education that has impacted the lives of students and the community. This program reflects and honors the history of courageous students and dedicated teachers who have shaped the school and its culture. Booker offers rigorous, pre-professional training in the arts in six disciplines: Dance, Film & Animation, Music, Production & Design, Theatre, and Visual Art. Some notable graduates of the VPA are American Idol semifinalist, Broadway and film actress Syesha Mercado, Oscar-winning film make-up artist Bill Corso, and NBC’s “Chicago Fire” star Charlie Barnett. -
